Raqs Sharqi

The classic Egyptian stage form — 'dance of the East'. Born in Cairo's early-20th-century music halls and refined by Golden Era cinema, it blends baladi roots with orchestral music and theatrical staging.

Movement

Lifted posture, articulate hip work over a quiet frame, travelling steps, expressive arms and deep musicality with a full orchestra.

Costume

The bedlah — decorated bra and belt with a flowing skirt — codified in the 1930s club era.
